2026 Season | Week 1

Welcome to Our Fifth Season in Six Years

It’s hard to believe Yankee Street is entering its sixth year—and our fifth growing season.

Back in COVID-era 2020, Fawn Winterwood and I started Yankee Street with about 30 CSA members. We quickly grew to 53 in 2021 and 83 in 2022. That rapid growth led to some soul-searching—and ultimately, a year away—to rethink what Yankee Street could be, and how to balance farming with my full-time work at White Design Studio.

The answer was simple: simplify.

We shifted to farm pickup only, reduced subscriptions to a manageable 10–15 shares, adopted new planning software to track the 50+ varieties we grow, and built a stronger part-time team. Over the past three years, Matt and I have shared responsibilities, with help from Elandra, Shelly, Will, and now Josalynn—each bringing energy, skill, and structure as we continue learning what it means to become real farmers.

Each season, we’ve invested in smarter systems. In 2024, we added silage tarps to suppress weeds and keep beds ready for planting, and built a basement propagation station with LED grow lights and heat mats for 30 trays. Last year, we improved irrigation. This year, we’re focused on weed control—bringing in 21 bales of organic straw for lasagna-style mulching (cardboard and straw layered to block weeds) and adding a versatile two-wheel hoe to keep rows clean.

We’re also doubling down on herbs and flowers. The lower garden is being outfitted with drip irrigation, and I built four new raised beds where Charlotte will lead the care and cultivation of our herb and flower gardens.

With each season, Yankee Street becomes a little wiser, a little more efficient, and a little more rooted in what we set out to build.
